Legal Issues in the Arts: New Media, New Technology, New Audiences

Um….did we get a signed release before posting these pix? That and many other fascinating topics were covered by our distinguished panel on Thursday, October 11th at “Legal Issues in the Arts: New Media, New Technology, New Audiences”. Many thanks to our speakers: intellectual property attorneys Steve Eisenberg, Louis Tertocha and Ethan Wall; Michael Frisco, Director of Marketing with the New World Symphony and Andrew Goldberg, Vice President of Marketing with the Adrienne Arsht Center and to our generous host, Books & Books in Coral Gables. Although artists and arts groups are using new technologies such as Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook with great success to engage audiences, they can find themselves in difficult situations or can lose control of their original works without advance consideration of the legal ramifications. One such consequence, as social media expert Ethan Wall reminded the audience, is that we already released all rights to our social media posts when we clicked the “Accept Terms and Conditions” button!
