This article offers a closer look at Mr. Lipton’s career and his experiences with Dade Legal Aid- Put Something Back. Through his story, we gain insight into the impact of his work, and the meaningful difference Paul is making in the lives of those who need it most. Now, let’s hear what Paul had to say about his experience participating with Put Something Back:
Can you briefly tell us about your career journey as an attorney? What areas of law have you focused on throughout your career?
I started out as an assistant district attorney in Nassau County, New York. After we moved to Miami, I handled a variety of cases. A few examples are criminal defense, commercial litigation, land use litigation, and probate/ estate litigation.
How did you get involved with Dade Legal Aid, and why do you believe it is important for attorneys to give back to the community?
I always believed that Dade Legal Aid was and is such a critically important organization. It provides access to lawyers and the justice system that every citizen should have a right to. This is the only way to help and resolve issues for so many people who would otherwise be denied such access.
Can you describe some of the most impactful pro bono work during your career? What made them stand out?
As far as certain cases I would have to say helping children at risk was the most impactful. But also working with the Leadership Academy and helping newer lawyers see the grander story that they can be part of is so vital.
What advice would you give to other attorneys who might be considering getting involved in pro bono work?
My advice is to get involved. Help. Be part of the solution. We can each make a difference in our lives. What better way to spend your time and talent than helping someone in need.
Thank you, Paul, for everything you have done both for our community and for Dade Legal Aid – Put Something Back.
