Lunch & Learn Highlights: The ABCs of Probate for Pro Bono Attorneys

On September 17, 2026, Put Something Back Pro Bono Project hosted “The ABCs of Probate for Pro Bono Attorneys” featuring Marva Wiley, Esq., and moderated by Lotoya K. Brown, Esq. The training served as both a refresher for experienced probate volunteers and an introduction for attorneys interested in expanding their pro bono practice into probate law. Ms. Wiley shared invaluable substantive guidance, covering the essential do’s and don’ts of handling probate matters and offering practical tips to help attorneys confidently navigate the probate process. She also provided attendees with a comprehensive probate checklist, a resource designed to help volunteer attorneys effectively manage cases and achieve successful outcomes for their clients.

The event drew 57 registered attendees, demonstrating the strong interest among attorneys in serving clients with probate-related legal needs. Participants received CLE credit for their attendance and left equipped with new knowledge, practical tools, and a greater understanding of how they can make a meaningful impact through pro bono service.

“Put Something Back is grateful to Ms. Wiley for sharing her expertise and helping prepare both new and seasoned volunteers to assist clients in this important area of law,” said Brown. “The enthusiasm and engagement displayed throughout the program reflects a growing commitment among our volunteer attorneys to accept probate cases and expand access to justice for our community.”
