Cornell Law Students Aid Dade Legal Aid
Dade Legal Aid hosted Cornell Law Students during Spring Break 2018.
“Thank you for welcoming us. We were happy to have had the opportunity to work with everyone in the office,” said Michaela Kamemoto, one of the students. “The time at Dade Legal Aid was a fascinating and memorable experience,” added Weigang Meng. “The staff attorneys are great mentors – they took us to court, explained the litigation strategies and gave practical feedback on researching and drafting memorandum of law. We really appreciate such a precious and valuable experience in Miami. I am inspired to know so many respectable and kind attorneys who are really making a difference. The most important thing I learned from them is that being a lawyer is much more than billable hours, he/she should also “Put Something Back.” Just as Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy said: “Lawyers have their duties as citizens, but they also have special duties as lawyers. Their obligations go far deeper than earning a living as specialists in corporation or tax law. They have a continuing responsibility to uphold the fundamental principles of justice from which the law cannot depart,” said Meng.
